What is a Rotary Club?

As a basic definition, a Rotary Club as a group of men and women who are dedicated to serve its community to the best of its capabilities, and enjoy fellowships. True enough, but for some people, a Rotary Club can be defined in many ways.A Rotary Club for some people, is like a business club. It opens opportunity for people to meet people from different places, and of different occupations, therefore, new businesses springs forth whenever you attend a Rotary Club meeting, or talk with a Rotarian.

To some people, a Rotary Club is like a fraternity. The brotherhood so deep, and the principles shared should be followed up to the last letter. Rotary for these people believe in the saying: “Once a Rotarian, always a Rotarian”. Well… this is highly debatable, but I’ll leave it at this point.

For some, a Rotary Club is like a cult. Not the negative connotations the cult as a group of people doing strange rituals, and blood sacrifices, etc. But rather, the Club has become an ingrained element in their lives, that most of their days are spent on doing things that are related to Rotary! They would be having more than three major meetings weekly (General Meeting, Board Meeting, Family Days, etc.), and during their free time, they would be conducting service projects, and so forth…

Others view a Rotary Club as a party place! I must agree, Rotary does a lot of great parties, and when we talk about Rotary parties… expect a cornucopia of food, booze, and anything that is imaginably fun!!!!

People may have other definitions about what is a Rotary Club about. People may also agree that Rotary’s definition could be more than what I mentioned, but for me, the simplest definition of Rotary are these six simple words:

My Rotary Club is my family.
