It usually happens during afternoons. Schedules may vary depending on the availability, but nevertheless the show must go on. Welcome to the gimmick sessions of the unbroken trilogy of friendship of the Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity (APO), Lumabay-labay Club (Labay), and Upsilon Sigma Phi (Upsilon), also known as the Tri-Meet of UP Los Banos. Below are some of the chosen clips of culture of this assemblage. If I may recall, here are some:

1. The resident members of the APO fraternity during that time usually spend their afternoons with coupla bottles of gin. It is usually drank straight or served on-the-rocks accompanied by a Smorgasbord of pulutan that range from the common (kornik, peanuts, chips, canned sardines or tuna with skyflakes, green peas, isaw (roasted chicken intestines), adidas (chicken feet), ulo ng manok (chicken heads), betamax (roasted chicken blood), proven, chicharon balat ng manok or baboy, etc.) to the very special (Inihaw na Tilapia, Bangus, Pokchop, Chicken wings, etc.) or the utmost bizarre (Kalderetang aso, Inihaw na Bayuko (a kind of snail/mollusk found only at Mount Makiling), Adobo sa gata (native chicken, bayawak, paniki, snails, etc.). A famous mix concocted with gin was GIN-ACOLAIT. This drink was concocted by our sisters in the APO Sorority during the 1997 or 1998 February fair. The mix was very simple: one (1) bottle of gin (bilog), and two (2) tetra-packs of Magnolia Chocolait, mixed with a lot of ice. A very sweet, tasty, concoction… tastes more like your regular Chocolait, and yet, lethal for folks with a weak tummy. When this was served at the last day of the Feb Fair (Friday!), everybody went loco over the strange cocktail! The APO Feb-Fair booth during that time was always located on the vicinity of the Thai pavilion, and always near the stage. I could still remember that we even gave the members of The Jerks, the performing band that night, shots of GIN-ACOLAIT! If memory serves me right, Chickoy Pura, the vocalist and guitarist, was flabbergasted by this sweet drink, and shouted in ecstacy, while their lead guitarist was doing his guitar-solo on “Sayaw sa Bubog”. It was a dancing frenzy for everybody!

2. Our dear friends from Labay have a very significant and memorable event that marks in the hearts and minds of every member of APO, or Upsilon, old and new: The “First Friday”. Every first Friday of the month, “Amigos” or “Migs”, are invited to this affair as a regular activity of the Primos and Primas of Labay to get-together and celebrate. The term Migs is the common name that all the members of the Tri-Meet use to address each other. This night was usually notoriously-remembered by new members of APO, and Upsilon! First Friday is usually the one event wherein the “baptism of fire” was bestowed upon to them … a long night of drinking, socializing, and re-living the memories! The members of Labay serve a variety of drinks on this event. A rule-of-thumb during First Fridays: Whenever a Primo (Labay) calls for a toast, you are obligated to finish off your drink up to the last drop. No matter what happens and no matter how many! Friendship games during First Fridays include, Beer-relays, Fastest Gulp, etc.

3. GATACA. Stands for GAtas, TAnduay, and CApe. A drink popularized by the Upsilonians. This drink, as far as I could remember, was first concocted by some members of Upsilon during the mid to late 90s, or 1997 to be exact. It was first served during the prelude of their “Friday, Friday on a Thursday” activity. The concoction was a mixture of the sweet and creamy condensed milk (Alaska was usually the brand of choice), 250 g sachet of instant coffee (Nescafe of course!) and a “long-neck” bottle of Tanduay Rum, mixed and served with a lot of ice. The taste of this drink will remind you of Kahlua.

These are just a few of the many gimmicks of the Trimeet during the 90s. So I call on the Migs (and the brods) to post some of their experiences way back!
